John Bielen, 92, of Clark, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 29, 2021. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at the Parkway Wozniak Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave, Clark, NJ.
All are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 537 Grove Street, Irvington, NJ. Entombment at Saint Gertrude’s Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ will follow Mass.
John was born February 7, 1928 to Anthony (1931) and Mary Bielen (nee Rembiscz) (1974). He grew up in Bayonne and lived in Irvington until moving to Clark in 1984 He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Bayonne.
Married January 23, 1955 at Sacred Heart to his beloved wife Emily of nearly 65 years, John and Emily opened John’s American Service in Irvington which they operated together for 54 years from 1956 to 2010 with the help of their sons John Jr. and Stephen. Prior to the opening of John’s American, he was member of the Merchant Marine.
A longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart, John was a fixture in the area well known by the parishioners and residents. You would always find him with his close-knit group of friends continually telling stories about his days in Bayonne, sailing on ships across the globe or whether Rutt’s Hut or McCobbs had the best hotdog. He was known for his love of cars, especially Cadillacs, attending Polish festivals, dining out with his family and spending time with his granddaughters.
John was the devoted father of sons Michael (Helen) of Westfield and Stephen of Clark and loving grandfather of Elizabeth and Caroline. John was predeceased by his wife Emily (2019), daughter Carol (2010) and son John, Jr (1990).
