Born in Druzykowa Poland, to Franciszek and Antonina Cukier.  He immigrated to the United States in 1951 and attended St. Stanislaus School where he met and married Josephine Nowak. After finishing vocational high school, they purchased their first home in Newark. After 6 years they moved to Springfield, where they raised their 3 sons and 1 daughter. In 1983 they built their dreamhouse in Mountainside where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends for 23 years. In 2006 they moved to Clark.

After he developed his skills as a machinist, Al established Alker Tool Co. in Maplewood and successfully ran it for over 30 years. He was a kindhearted man that helped countless Polish immigrants establish themselves in America. Al was a devoted parishioner of St. Stanislaus R.C. Church in Newark where he married his wife, and their children and grandchildren were also baptized there. He was a great supporter to his wife Josephine, and both volunteered time and talents to many Polish organizations and causes.
